The course typically combines instructor-led explanations, hands-on database tasks, and practice questions covering database fundamentals, deployment, management and maintenance, data and database security, and business continuity. P
articipants study topics such as relational database concepts, scripting and programming basics, monitoring, performance, access control, backup, recovery, and high availability.
After completion, learners should be better prepared to support, secure, and maintain database systems in operational environments.
What You Will Learn
CompTIA DataSys+ course content
This training follows the main CompTIA DataSys+ knowledge areas for database administration: database fundamentals, deployment, management and maintenance, data and database security, and business continuity. It supports preparation for the DS0-001 exam, which includes multiple-choice and performance-based questions.
Database fundamentals
Relational and non-relational database structures, including NoSQL concepts.
SQL tasks using DDL, DML, TCL, stored procedures, views, and ACID principles.
Basic scripting and automation concepts using tools such as Python, PowerShell, and command-line interfaces.
Database planning and deployment
Requirements gathering, database architecture, entity relationship diagrams, and data dictionaries.
Installation, configuration, provisioning, upgrades, imports, and connectivity checks.
Testing activities, including schema validation, stress testing, regression testing, and referential integrity checks.
Management, maintenance, and performance
Monitoring CPU, memory, storage, throughput, transaction logs, alerts, replication, and backup status.
Query tuning, index analysis, patching, capacity planning, and documentation through SOPs and change records.
Security and governance
Encryption in transit and at rest, data masking, data discovery, secure destruction, and audit checks.
Authentication and authorization using least privilege, RBAC, MFA, password policies, and service account controls.
Governance topics such as data retention, data loss prevention, and compliance needs for regulated data.
Business continuity
Backup and restore methods, including full, differential, incremental, and transaction log backups.
Recovery planning using RTO, RPO, replication, failover, and high-availability concepts.
Participants apply concepts through lectures, demonstrations, hands-on labs, and scenario-based exercises. After completion, they can support database deployment, routine administration, security controls, backup planning, and exam preparation tasks.
Certification & Exam
This course prepares participants for the CompTIA DataSys+ certification, exam DS0-001. The certification is earned by scheduling and passing the CompTIA exam through CompTIA’s testing process, commonly delivered through Pearson VUE testing centers or online proctoring.
The exam includes a maximum of 90 questions, using multiple-choice and performance-based formats, and candidates have 90 minutes to complete it. A passing score is 700 on CompTIA’s 100-900 scale. Exam content covers database fundamentals, deployment, management and maintenance, data and database security, and business continuity.
CompTIA recommends 2-3 years of hands-on database administration experience before testing. For current exam requirements, refer to the official CompTIA DataSys+ certification page.
What You Will Achieve
Apply core database concepts, including relational and non-relational structures, schemas, tables, keys, indexes, views, transactions, and ACID principles, to common database administration tasks.
Write and interpret SQL statements used for data definition, data manipulation, access control, and transaction control, including queries that support data retrieval, updates, constraints, and database object management.
Plan and implement database deployments by assessing storage needs, connectivity, configuration settings, client access, testing requirements, and deployment risks across on-premises, cloud, or hybrid environments.
Monitor and maintain database systems by reviewing logs, alerts, performance metrics, capacity trends, job status, backups, replication activity, and system resource usage.
Analyze and improve database performance using maintenance tasks such as indexing, query review, patching, integrity checks, change control, and documentation of operational procedures.
Implement data and database security controls, including authentication, authorization, encryption, access review, audit logging, data masking, and protection of sensitive information.
Evaluate backup, restore, disaster recovery, and business continuity requirements by defining recovery goals, testing restore processes, and documenting procedures for data availability.
Prepare for CompTIA DataSys+ certification objectives by connecting database theory with practical administration scenarios in deployment, management, security, maintenance, and recovery.
