CompTIA Project+ covers the knowledge tested in the PK0-005 certification exam, with a focus on managing small to mid-sized IT projects. Training typically combines guided lessons, scenario-based exercises, and exam review. Participants study project management concepts, Agile and Waterfall methods, life cycle phases, tools and documentation, communication, risk, change control, schedules, resources, and basic IT governance. The course balances theory with practical coordination tasks, so learners can support project planning, execution, monitoring, and closure in professional settings.

What You Will Learn

This CompTIA Project+ course covers the PK0-005 exam domains: project management concepts, project life cycle phases, tools and documentation, and basics of IT and governance. Content is taught through instructor-led explanations, scenario exercises, sample project documents, and practical review activities aligned with CompTIA objectives.

Module 1: Project Management Concepts

  • Project characteristics, programs, portfolios, roles, and responsibilities.

  • Agile and Waterfall comparison, including Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, PRINCE2, SDLC, XP, DevOps, and DevSecOps.

  • Change control, scope management, risk responses, issue escalation, schedule management, quality, communication, meetings, procurement, and vendor selection.

Module 2: Project Life Cycle Phases

  • Discovery and concept work, including business cases, ROI, CapEx, OpEx, and existing contracts.

  • Initiation and planning activities such as project charters, stakeholder assessment, RACI matrices, WBS, backlogs, schedules, budgets, QA plans, and risk assessments.

  • Execution and closure, including vendor management, progress reporting, conflict handling, deliverable validation, project sign-off, and document archiving.

Module 3: Tools, Documentation, and Analysis

  • Use of Gantt charts, PERT charts, milestone charts, task boards, issue logs, risk registers, change logs, dashboards, status reports, and Requirements Traceability Matrices.

  • Review of quality and performance charts, including Pareto charts, control charts, burnup and burndown charts, velocity charts, and fishbone diagrams.

Module 4: IT, Security, and Governance

  • ESG factors, privacy, PII, PHI, access control, MFA, data classification, and compliance considerations.

  • Cloud models, SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, CI/CD, release control, rollback plans, and production versus staging environments.

After completion, participants should be able to support small to medium projects, maintain core project records, communicate project status, manage risks and changes, and prepare for the CompTIA Project+ PK0-005 certification exam.

Certification & Exam

The training provider’s CompTIA Project+ course prepares participants for the CompTIA Project+ PK0-005 exam. Candidates who pass the official exam earn the CompTIA Project+ ce certification, which validates practical knowledge of project management concepts, project life cycle phases, tools and documentation, and basics of IT and governance.

The exam includes multiple-choice and performance-based questions, has a 90-minute time limit, and requires a passing score of 710 on a 100 to 900 scale. As of October 1, 2025, newly earned Project+ certifications require renewal every three years through CompTIA’s Continuing Education program.

  • Use communication and stakeholder management practices to plan meetings, report progress, address conflict, and keep project information accurate and accessible.

  • Explain IT project governance topics covered by CompTIA Project+, including compliance, privacy, information security, operational change control, and ESG considerations.
