The iSAQB® Architecture Documentation (ADOC) training is an Advanced Level module within the Certified Professional for Software Architecture (CPSA-A) program. The course shows how to document software architectures in a clear and structured way so that developers, architects, and stakeholders can understand and use them in real projects.
Description
The iSAQB® Architecture Documentation (ADOC) training is an Advanced Level module within the Certified Professional for Software Architecture (CPSA-A) program. The course shows how to document software architectures in a clear and structured way so that developers, architects, and stakeholders can understand and use them in real projects.
Participants learn how to create architecture documentation that supports communication, decision making, and long term system maintenance. The training uses well known methods such as arc42, common diagram types, and clear documentation rules that are widely used in professional software architecture work.
The course also explains how good documentation helps teams share knowledge, reduce misunderstandings, and keep systems maintainable as they grow. Through practical examples and exercises, participants learn how to describe architecture decisions, structure documentation, and present complex systems in a simple and consistent way.

What You Will Learn
1. Why Architecture Documentation Matters
Understand the role of architecture documentation in software projects. Learn how documentation supports communication between developers, architects, managers, and other stakeholders.
2. Documentation Standards and Structures
Learn common documentation approaches used in software architecture, including the arc42 template and structured documentation practices used in real projects.
3. Architecture Views and Perspectives
Understand how to describe systems using different architecture views. This includes context view, building block view, runtime view, and deployment view.
4. Technical Diagrams and Notation
Learn how to use diagrams to explain software architecture. The course covers practical diagram types such as component diagrams, context diagrams, and deployment diagrams.
5. Documenting Architecture Decisions
Learn how to record important architecture decisions and the reasoning behind them using methods such as Architecture Decision Records (ADRs).
6. Quality Requirements and Constraints
Understand how to document quality attributes like performance, scalability, and security, as well as technical and business constraints.
7. Documentation in Agile Projects
Learn how architecture documentation fits into modern development methods such as agile and DevOps without slowing down development.
8. Practical Exercises
Apply the concepts in hands on exercises where participants create structured architecture documentation for example systems.
Certification & Exam
Certification
The iSAQB® Architecture Documentation (ADOC) training is part of the Certified Professional for Software Architecture (CPSA-A) Advanced Level program from the International Software Architecture Qualification Board.
After completing the training, participants receive iSAQB Advanced Level credit points for the ADOC module. These credit points count toward the CPSA-A certification.
To obtain the CPSA-A certificate, participants must:
Hold the CPSA-Foundation Level (CPSA-F) certification.
Collect the required Advanced Level credit points from different modules such as ADOC.
Earn credits across the required competence areas defined by iSAQB.
There is no separate exam for the ADOC module itself. Instead, the course contributes credit points that are required to complete the Advanced Level certification path.
Once enough credit points are collected, professionals can apply for the CPSA-Advanced Level certification, which confirms their advanced expertise in software architecture.
What You Will Achieve
After completing the iSAQB® Architecture Documentation (ADOC) training, participants will be able to document software architectures in a clear, structured, and practical way.
They will learn how to explain complex systems so that developers, architects, project managers, and other stakeholders can understand the architecture and work with it effectively.
Participants will be able to:
Create structured software architecture documentation using recognized approaches such as arc42
Describe systems through clear architecture views such as context, building blocks, runtime, and deployment
Use diagrams and technical notation to explain architecture decisions and system structures
Document important architecture decisions and their reasoning
Capture quality requirements, constraints, and system context in architecture documentation
Improve communication between technical teams and business stakeholders
Maintain architecture documentation that supports long term system development and maintenance
By the end of the course, participants will understand how good documentation supports collaboration, reduces misunderstandings, and helps teams manage complex software systems more effectively.
