What You Will Learn
Basics of Requirements Engineering in an Agile Context
The IREB® Agile Primer introduces the role of Requirements Engineering (RE) in agile development. Participants learn core RE terms, the value of clear requirements work, and how RE supports agile teams when product needs change during development.
Combining RE with Agile Methods
How RE activities fit into agile ways of working
Use of RE practices with Scrum and Kanban
How agile principles affect requirements definition, communication, and refinement
Requirements Management in Agile Projects
Handling changing requirements during iterative development
Prioritizing requirements based on value, risk, and stakeholder needs
Maintaining a shared understanding of requirements across the team
Roles and Cooperation
The course covers cooperation between product owners, requirements engineers, business analysts, developers, Scrum Masters, and other stakeholders. Participants examine how responsibilities are shared in agile settings and how communication supports better requirements decisions.
Practical Application and Exam Preparation
Training providers may deliver the course through instructor-led explanations, discussions, short exercises, and examples from agile product development. The content supports preparation for the IREB® Agile Primer certification exam, a 40-minute multiple-choice exam with about 22 questions. After completion, participants can use RE terminology in agile contexts, apply basic RE methods in agile teams, and contribute more effectively to requirements work in agile projects.
Certification & Exam
Certification: This course prepares participants for the IREB® Agile Primer certificate, which covers Requirements Engineering in agile settings, including Scrum, Kanban, changing requirements, prioritization, roles, and cooperation.
The exam is a 40-minute multiple-choice exam with approximately 22 questions based on the official syllabus. IREB states that training is optional, so candidates may also take the exam without attending a course if they are sufficiently prepared. Exams may be available online, on-site, or at a test center, depending on the certification body. After passing, participants receive the certificate from the certifier. The Agile Primer certificate is valid for life and may be accepted as an alternative entry requirement for the Level 2 CPRE RE@Agile Practitioner certification.
