Description

This course covers cloud application development for the AWS Certified Developer Associate certification, with a focus on AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway, AWS SDKs, IAM, and CI/CD workflows.

Participants learn how to build, test, deploy, and monitor serverless applications, manage application data, use authentication and permissions, and troubleshoot common issues.

Teaching may include instructor-led lectures, hands-on labs, demos, and exam-style practice questions.

The content balances AWS service concepts with practical development tasks, helping developers and technical teams prepare for certification and apply AWS development skills at work.

What You Will Learn

Module 1: AWS development fundamentals

  • Develop cloud-based applications using AWS service APIs, AWS CLI, and AWS SDKs.

  • Compare event-driven, microservices, monolithic, choreography, orchestration, and fanout patterns.

  • Apply stateless design, loose coupling, synchronous and asynchronous communication, retry logic, circuit breakers, and error handling.

Module 2: Serverless application development

  • Build and configure AWS Lambda functions, including runtime, handler, memory, timeout, concurrency, layers, triggers, and destinations.

  • Connect Lambda with Amazon API Gateway, Amazon EventBridge, Amazon SQS, Amazon SNS, AWS Step Functions, and data processing workflows.

  • Test Lambda functions using sample events, development endpoints, and AWS developer tools.

Module 3: Data stores and application state

  • Use Amazon DynamoDB keys, indexes, query and scan operations, and consistency models.

  • Work with Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, Amazon S3, Amazon ElastiCache, and Amazon OpenSearch Service based on application access patterns.

  • Manage serialization, persistence, caching, and data lifecycle needs in application code.

Module 4: Security, deployment, and operations

  • Implement authentication and authorization using Amazon Cognito, IAM, AWS STS, bearer tokens, and fine-grained permissions.

  • Protect data using AWS KMS, AWS Secrets Manager, encryption at rest, encryption in transit, and secure environment variables.

  • Package and deploy applications with AWS SAM, AWS CloudFormation, AWS CodeBuild, AWS CodeDeploy, and AWS CodePipeline.

  • Practice blue/green, canary, rolling deployments, rollback methods, and environment-specific configuration with AWS AppConfig.

Module 5: Troubleshooting and optimization

  • Use Amazon CloudWatch, AWS X-Ray, structured logs, custom metrics, traces, dashboards, and alerts to investigate application issues.

  • Analyze performance, concurrency, memory, compute use, caching behavior, and service integration problems.

Training typically combines lectures, guided demonstrations, hands-on labs, exam-style questions, and case-based troubleshooting. After completion, participants should be able to build, test, deploy, secure, debug, and optimize AWS Cloud-based applications aligned with the AWS Certified Developer Associate DVA-C02 exam scope.

Certification & Exam

Participants prepare for the AWS Certified Developer Associate (DVA-C02) exam, which validates skills in developing, testing, deploying, and debugging AWS Cloud-based applications. The exam is an Associate-level AWS

Certification exam with 65 questions in multiple-choice and multiple-response formats. Candidates have 130 minutes to complete it. Of the 65 questions, 50 are scored and 15 are unscored; unscored questions are not identified during the exam. Results are reported on a 100 to 1,000 scaled score, with 720 required to pass.

Testing is available through Pearson VUE test centers or online proctoring. See the official AWS certification page for current details.

What You Will Achieve

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Develop application code for AWS-hosted workloads using AWS service APIs, the AWS Command Line Interface, and AWS SDKs.

  • Implement AWS Lambda functions with environment variables, runtime settings, triggers, error handling, destinations, and service integrations.

  • Apply common application patterns on AWS, including event-driven processing, microservices concepts, synchronous and asynchronous communication, and loosely coupled components.

  • Use AWS data services in application development, including Amazon DynamoDB keys and indexes, query and scan operations, consistency models, caching, and data lifecycle controls.

  • Secure application access and data using IAM roles and permissions, Amazon Cognito, bearer tokens, encryption at rest and in transit, and secret management services.

  • Package and deploy applications with CI/CD workflows, code repositories, AWS SAM, AWS CloudFormation templates, environment-specific configuration, and release strategies such as canary, rolling, and blue/green deployments.

  • Test cloud applications using integration tests, mock APIs, event payloads, API Gateway stages, development endpoints, and automated deployment checks.

  • Troubleshoot and optimize AWS applications by using logs, metrics, traces, Amazon CloudWatch, structured logging, health checks, performance profiling, and resource usage analysis.
