What You Will Learn

Course Content

CompTIA a+ Cyber covers the core technical knowledge needed to begin cybersecurity training and prepare for later CompTIA Security+ study. The content focuses on practical administration, secure configuration, and basic security operations across Windows, Linux, networks, applications, and data. CompTIA introduced the a+ series as modular technical learning with videos, assessments, and hands-on labs.

Key Modules

  • Cybersecurity support roles: security job functions, common threats, vulnerabilities, risk concepts, and Security Operations Center fundamentals.

  • Microsoft Windows administration: Windows system management, user accounts, administrative tools, application support, storage tasks, and basic system hardening.

  • Secure network clients: TCP/IP, network protocols, client configuration, SOHO networks, secure browsing, and device protection.

  • Enterprise networking: campus network concepts, network security components, data centers, virtualization, WANs, VPNs, cloud services, and IoT security considerations.

  • Cybersecurity controls: operational procedures, asset management, vulnerability management, incident management, security monitoring, and response basics.

  • Linux application servers: Linux command-line work, user and file system management, permissions, and application service administration.

  • Automation and data management: scripting logic, PowerShell, Bash, automation use cases, data storage, data privacy, backups, and lifecycle management.

After completion, participants should be able to secure common devices and home networks, apply basic protection methods to small and enterprise networks, administer Windows and Linux systems, and continue into CompTIA Security+ training with a clearer technical base.

Certification & Exam

Completion of this course prepares participants for the CompTIA a+ Cyber CompCert assessment, a beginner-level assessment for cybersecurity foundation skills. It supports study in areas such as cybersecurity support, Windows and Linux administration, secure network clients, enterprise network basics, cybersecurity controls, automation scripting, and data management.

The CompCert assessment is task-based, with up to 45 tasks, including up to 12 lab questions. The time limit is 120 minutes. Scores range from 200 to 2,000, with a passing score of 1,400. After passing, learners can earn a downloadable CompTIA Competency Certificate. This is not the same as the full CompTIA Security+ certification, but it can support preparation for further cybersecurity training. Reference: Official CompTIA A+ Cyber source.

What You Will Achieve

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify cybersecurity support roles, basic security operations concepts, and the responsibilities of technicians who support secure IT environments.

  • Manage Microsoft Windows systems using secure account settings, permissions, local security controls, system monitoring, and routine maintenance tasks.

  • Configure secure network clients and SOHO networks, including IP settings, Wi-Fi security, router administration, access controls, and basic firewall settings.

  • Explain enterprise campus network and data center fundamentals, including switches, routers, firewalls, cabling, virtualization, and common network services.

  • Implement authentication, authorization, and application protocol controls that support secure access to systems, applications, and network resources.

  • Apply cybersecurity controls to reduce common risks, including malware, phishing, unauthorized access, insecure configurations, and exposed network services.

  • Respond to basic security incidents by identifying symptoms, documenting findings, applying containment steps, and supporting recovery activities.

  • Use Linux commands, basic Bash scripts, backup concepts, and data protection practices to support secure system administration and routine security tasks.
