Description
CompTIA Linux Pro prepares learners for Linux administration work and CompTIA Linux+ certification through videos, text lessons, demonstrations, section quizzes, practice exams, and 102 hands-on lab simulations.
Using a vendor-neutral custom Linux distribution, participants practice installation, command-line work, package management, users and groups, boot processes, system monitoring, disk and file system management, logical volumes, networking, firewalls, SSH, scripting, automation, cloud, and virtualization.
After completion, participants should be able to configure, maintain, secure, and troubleshoot Linux systems in support, systems administration, network, or security roles.
What You Will Learn
Module 1: Linux foundations and installation
Linux distribution concepts, command-line use, shell navigation, file system hierarchy, help tools, and basic administration workflows.
Linux installation, boot process, GRUB2, kernel modules, hardware devices, localization, system startup, and shutdown procedures.
Module 2: Users, groups, files, and permissions
User and group administration, account settings, password management, and privilege escalation with sudo.
File and directory management, links, archives, compression, ownership, standard permissions, special permissions, and access control lists.
Module 3: Software, storage, services, and networking
Package management with RPM-based and DEB-based tools, software updates, service management, process control, job scheduling, and system monitoring.
Storage administration, partitions, file systems, mounting, swap, RAID concepts, logical volume management, and backup considerations.
Network configuration, IP settings, name resolution, routing, SSH, remote administration, firewall setup, and connectivity troubleshooting.
Module 4: Security, scripting, automation, and containers
Linux security practices, authentication, file integrity checks, firewall rules, SELinux, vulnerability awareness, and secure configuration review.
Bash scripting with variables, conditionals, loops, redirection, pipes, exit codes, and text tools such as grep, sed, and awk. The course also introduces basic Python scripting for administration tasks.
Version control with Git, infrastructure as code concepts, Ansible, YAML, JSON, container basics, Docker, and Kubernetes concepts.
Practice and outcomes
The course uses lessons, demonstrations, and hands-on labs in Linux environments. After completion, participants should be able to perform common Linux administration tasks, troubleshoot system and network issues, automate basic tasks, and work with containers. The course prepares participants for the CompTIA Linux Pro assessment and may support review of objectives from the retired CompTIA Linux+ XK0-005 exam.
Certification & Exam
This course prepares participants for the CompTIA Linux Pro certification assessment, a practical credential focused on Linux administration tasks. The certification exam uses performance-based lab questions, so candidates must complete tasks in simulated Linux environments rather than only answer theory questions.
The assessment includes up to 13 lab questions and up to 52 tasks. Candidates have 120 minutes to complete the exam. Scores are reported on a 200 to 2,000 scale, with a passing score of 1,360.
Participants who pass can demonstrate skills in areas such as system management, users and permissions, storage, networking, security, and command-line administration.
For the latest certification details, refer to the official CompTIA Linux Pro source.
What You Will Achieve
The course content aligns with CompTIA Linux+ (V5), exam XK0-005, which retired on January 13, 2026. It should not be presented as preparation for CompTIA Linux+ XK0-006 (V8).
Install and configure Linux systems for workstation, server, virtualized, and cloud-based environments using common setup, localization, and system configuration tasks.
Use the Linux command line to manage files, directories, shells, environment variables, text editors, redirection, pipes, and command help resources.
Manage users, groups, permissions, ownership, access controls, and authentication settings to support secure Linux administration.
Configure storage devices and file systems, including partitions, mount points, swap space, RAID concepts, and file system maintenance tasks.
Administer system services, software packages, processes, startup behavior, logging, and routine maintenance tasks on Linux hosts.
Set up Linux networking functions, including network interfaces, routing, firewalls, remote access, printing, and related service configuration.
Apply Linux security practices, including host hardening, firewall configuration, VPN and network security concepts, and access control tools such as SELinux.
Troubleshoot common Linux issues involving users, storage, networking, services, security settings, and command-line operations through practical lab scenarios.
