Part 1: Cloud computing and security fundamentals, including cloud service models, deployment models and the shared-responsibility model

Part 2: Identity and Access Management in the cloud, covering authentication, authorization, role-based access control and secure identity practices

Part 3: Data protection and encryption in cloud environments, including securing data at rest, data in transit and cloud storage

Part 4: Network security in the cloud, focusing on virtual networks, network access controls and secure network configuration

Part 5: Application security in cloud settings, including risk awareness and secure configuration of cloud-hosted applications

Part 6: Cloud monitoring and incident response, including logging, threat detection and response workflows for cloud systems

Part 7: Cloud security risk assessment and risk management, covering identification, evaluation and mitigation of cloud-specific risks

Part 8: Cloud compliance and governance, including regulatory requirements, policies and governance frameworks for secure cloud adoption

Certification & Exam

After completing the Cloud Security Essentials course, you can take the CSE certification exam. The exam assesses your understanding of cloud architecture, cloud-specific risks and the fundamental security controls used to protect cloud environments.

The exam consists of multiple choice questions and is delivered through an approved EC-Council testing platform. EC-Council uses a cut-score method, which means the passing score can vary based on the difficulty of the specific exam version.

There are no prerequisites, so the certification is suitable for beginners or anyone who wants to build foundational cloud-security knowledge. Once you pass, you receive the CSE certificate, confirming your ability to apply essential security practices in modern cloud environments.

What You Will Achieve

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • understand how cloud service models and deployment models work and how security responsibilities are shared

  • apply core identity and access management practices to secure cloud resources

  • protect cloud data using encryption, secure storage and secure transmission methods

  • configure and secure virtual networks in cloud environments

  • identify common risks for cloud-hosted applications and apply basic application-security controls

  • monitor cloud environments, interpret cloud logs and support incident response activities

  • perform basic cloud security risk assessments and plan appropriate mitigation steps

  • apply compliance and governance principles to keep cloud usage aligned with regulations and security policies
