Description

The iSAQB ARCEVAL course teaches systematic methods to evaluate software architectures. This module of the Certified Professional for Software Architecture (CPSA) Advanced Level helps professionals verify if a system meets its quality requirements.

  • ATAM: Identifying risks and design trade-offs.

  • Quality Models: Using ISO/IEC 25010 to define software quality.

  • Review Techniques: Performing audits using checklists and walkthroughs.

  • Economic Evaluation: Analyzing the cost-benefit of technical decisions.

This training is for software architects and senior developers who must justify technical choices. Participants learn to document results and provide clear recommendations. Completion provides credit points toward the iSAQB CPSA-A certificate.

What You Will Learn

This iSAQB Advanced Level training covers the systematic evaluation of software architectures. The curriculum includes the following parts:

Part 1: Basic concepts of software architecture evaluation.

Part 2: Objectives and requirements in architectural evaluation.

Part 3: Evaluation methods and appraisal procedures.

Part 4: Architecture rework and follow-up evaluations.

Part 5: Evaluation of existing systems.

Part 6: Examples and case studies for evaluating software architectures.

Certification & Exam

This training prepares you for the iSAQB® Advanced Level module ARCEVAL, Architecture Evaluation. By participating in an iSAQB-accredited ARCEVAL training, you receive 20 credit points in the Methodical Competence area. These points count toward admission to the final certification Certified Professional for Software Architecture, Advanced Level, CPSA®-A.

For the CPSA-A certification, you also need the CPSA-F certificate, at least three years of professional IT experience including participation in the design and development of at least two different IT systems, as well as a total of 70 credit points from all three competence areas, with at least 10 points per area. The official details from the iSAQB on the CPSA Advanced Level are authoritative.

What You Will Achieve

  • Apply basic methods of architecture evaluation to review software architectures in a structured way and reflect on them clearly.

  • Define and prioritize quality goals using scenario-based techniques to create clear evaluation criteria for your project.

  • Analyze architectural risks and trade-offs to prepare and justify technical decisions objectively.

  • Plan and conduct evaluation workshops, including roles, procedure, documenting results, and involving relevant stakeholders.

  • Compare different evaluation approaches and select a suitable method for the respective project context.

  • Document evaluation results so that risks, quality statements, and recommended actions are clear to teams and decision-makers.
