This qualification is also appropriate for anyone who wants a basic understanding of test automation, such as project managers, quality managers, software development managers, business analysts, IT directors and management consultants.
ISTQB Certified Tester Advanced Level Test Automation Engineering (CTAL-TAE) v2.0 builds on the knowledge gained at Foundation Level and focuses on the practical design, implementation, and maintenance of test automation solutions.
A valid ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level certificate is required before taking this Advanced Level exam.
The syllabus is structured into eight chapters:
Chapter 1- Introduction and Objectives for Test Automation
Chapter 2- Preparing for Test Automation
Chapter 3- Test Automation Architecture
Chapter 4- Implementing Test Automation
Chapter 5- Implementation and Deployment Strategies for Test Automation
Chapter 6- Test Automation Reporting and Metrics
Chapter 7- Verifying the Test Automation Solution
Chapter 8- Continuous Improvement
The certification is aimed at professionals who design, build, deploy, and improve automated testing solutions within modern development environments.

The ISTQB® Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL) certification is the cornerstone of essential testing knowledge that can be applied to real-world scenarios. The syllabus provides a comprehensive understanding of the terminology and concepts used in the testing domain worldwide, making it relevant for all software delivery approaches and practices, including Agile, DevOps, and Continuous Delivery.CTFL certification is recognized as a prerequisite to all other ISTQB® certifications where the Foundation Level is required.
The Advanced Level Test Analyst certification provides the skills needed to perform structured and thorough software testing across the software development life cycle. It details the test analyst’s role and responsibilities at every step of a standard test process and expands on important test techniques. It mainly focuses on functional testing but also discusses user-focused, non-functional testing.
The ISTQB® Advanced Level Test Management (CTAL-TM) certification provides the knowledge and competencies to take responsibility for managing all the testing activities across the software development lifecycle. It covers everything from how to design a suitable test approach for the project based on the organizational test strategy to building a test team or testing competencies to complete the necessary testing.
The ISTQB® Advanced Level Agile Technical Tester (CTAL-ATT) certification provides a thorough introduction to the technical testing skills which are fundamental in organizations using an Agile development approach. These skills include testing and agile techniques, test automation approaches, and continuous deployment and delivery.
The ISTQB® Agile Test Leadership at Scale (CT-ATLaS) certification focuses on how to organize and improve quality and testing across multiple teams in an agile organization. It also covers how to approach quality and testing at a strategic level in order to achieve higher business agility in an organization. CT-ATLaS covers how to scale testing and quality assurance efforts by fostering a quality mindset and culture across the organization. This includes shifting from a traditional test management approach typically used in sequential development models to a quality assistance approach which builds on Lean and Agile principles and values. It also includes how to adopt common Lean and Agile techniques and processes for analyzing and solving problems and how to use them to improve testing and quality in the organization.
The ISTQB® Foundation Level Agile Tester (CTFL-AT) certification provides the key testing skills necessary to successfully contribute to an Agile project. CTFL-AT covers agile testing in alignment with the principles of agile software development as outlined in the Agile Manifesto. A tester on an Agile project will work differently than one working on a traditional project. Testers must understand the values and principles that underpin Agile projects, and how testers are an integral part of a whole-team approach together with developers and business representatives.
